Keolis Nederland connects thousands of people with their destination every day. With approximately 1,250 employees, they provide regional public transportation. Keolis does this not only with electric buses, but also with regional electric train services such as the Valleilijn between Amersfoort and Ede-Wageningen. Everything revolves around reliable transportation. Downtime is not an option.
In 2024, Keolis decided to move all IT management and the infrastructure required for it to the cloud. The premise was clear: operations must always continue, critical systems must be available 24/7.

The choice for Databalance
Guido Swinkels, ICT Manager at Keolis Nederland:
“2024 was the moment when a lot came our way at once. A major investment in the physical datacenter, replacement of all hardware, and the MSP contract needed to be reconsidered. We decided to reassess everything from scratch, and concluded that a migration to Microsoft Azure was the best fit for our strategy and vision for the future. What really appealed to me is that Databalance is truly specialized in Azure and doesn’t do a little bit of everything, as is often the case with others. Their pragmatic, fast, and solution-oriented approach was a major factor in awarding them the contract. It has become so much better, so much more pleasant, and so much more effective. A true partner for the future.”
Complete migration without downtime
Workloads and applications were migrated to Microsoft Azure step by step, at a pace that always prioritized the continuity of daily transportation. Downtime was and remains simply not an option: critical systems must be available 24/7 and 365 days a year. At the same time, security and compliance were structurally secured: NIS2, ISO 27001, and GDPR are embedded in the new environment, so that travelers can trust that their personal data is taken seriously.
“Downtime is not an option for Keolis. Neither is it for us.”
Nordi Malih – CEO Databalance
The management of IT infrastructure, workstations, and applications, including systems running in datacenters, is fully handled by Databalance and monitored 24/7. The result: Keolis’s IT department can focus entirely on innovation and the applications that directly serve the traveler, such as travel information and planning.
Moving forward with confidence
