Hospital Gelderse Vallei, located in Ede, offers a wide range of medical and paramedical disciplines. With 34 medical specialties and 156 medical specialists, and complementary disciplines such as physiotherapy and dietetics, the hospital has a strong focus on innovation and scientific research. Nutrition, exercise and sleep are the pillars of their care concept and are woven into their daily work. The hospital has more than 500 beds and receives more than 21,000 inpatients and 147,000 outpatients annually. To optimally support these care processes, a future-proof and reliable IT landscape is essential.
Customer perspective
New storage platform
“The maintenance contract for our old storage system had expired and it no longer met current requirements. We needed to look for a new solution that could scale with the future growth of the hospital. In addition, we were not satisfied with the total cost of ownership, licensing and maintenance costs of our existing storage provider. This gave us the opportunity to explore alternative solutions that better suited our needs.”
A careful selection process
“To make the right choice, we asked an independent expert to prepare an RFP (Request for Proposal) with strict requirements for I/O performance and number of drives. Then five specialized resellers submitted a proposal. Databalance and Fujitsu presented a design in which the required performance was achieved significantly more efficiently, with less hardware and lower power consumption.”
The choice of Databalance
“At first, I could hardly believe that what Databalance and Fujitsu proposed was possible. But the test results spoke for themselves: high performance, lower complexity and significant hardware savings. It was clearly the best solution at the best price. That’s why we chose a dual Fujitsu Storage ETERNUS DX200 S3 platform, which supports our virtual server environment and the hospital’s core IT infrastructure.”
After placing the order, the hardware was delivered from Fujitsu’s European factory within two weeks. Thanks to collaboration with Databalance, implementation could be completed in just a few days. An acceleration in this process was made possible through the use of DataCore, a specialist in storage virtualization and management. This allowed the storage to be replaced live with no impact on the virtual servers, so there was no disruption to the hospital.
